About The Trend
The Trend, a student-produced newspaper since 1919, is the oldest organization on USAO’s campus. This publication offers students the opportunity to explore journalism in a variety of ways, including fact-based articles, opinions pieces, reviews, comic strips and illustrations, photo essays, and more. Published works earn individuals payment based on their work content. The senior staff works to teach motivated individuals journalism values and techniques. The Trend focuses on consistently updating USAO’s student body, faculty, and staff on relevant information and events on campus and around Chickasha. The Trend also looks to entertain its viewers through comic strips, photo essays, and other articles. This publication looks to support other campus departments, clubs, and organizations through articles and social media postings.

The Trend’s Code of Ethics
The Trend and its staff operate under a specific set of journalistic and ethical guidelines and values, outlined below. The Trend‘s Code of Ethics is provided by the Society of Professional Journalists.
SEEK TRUTH AND REPORT IT: Ethical journalists should be accurate and fair. Journalists should be honest and courageous in gathering, reporting, and interpreting information.
MINIMIZE HARM: Ethical journalism treats sources, subjects, colleagues, and members of the public as human beings deserving of respect.
ACT INDEPENDENTLY: The highest and primary obligation of ethical journalism is to serve the public.
BE ACCOUNTABLE AND TRANSPARENT: Ethical journalism means taking responsibility for one’s work and explaining one’s decisions to the public.
