Halloween is creeping around the corner, and with it comes the third annual Art Wrecker Costume Runway Contest. This year’s theme is “Glam-a-geddon.” People are already registering their best costumes for a chance to win over $1,000 in prizes, all happening at Art Wrecker Studios on Friday.
Jordan Vinyard, Dean of the School of Arts and Humanities at USAO and Director of Art Wrecker gave an inside look on this year’s festivities. The main thing to look out for is the involvement of the music and theatre departments, as well as the 1908 Jazz Co. performing in between judging.
“Their participation, I think, is really going to help us elevate everything,” Vinyard said. “I think more than anything I’m really excited about the new collaborative partnerships. We’ve done a little bit of that before, but everyone really came together this year, so that’s exciting.”
The apocalypse theme for this year has been heavily requested for several years by USAO students. The judges that will be at the event will consist of USAO alumni from the art, theatre, and music departments, as well as art students who have participated in past costume contests at Art Wrecker.
“We’ve also got a couple of listed prizes and some surprises along the way. Our categories are Best in Show, Most Glamourous, Most Grotesque, Judges Choice, that’s just the one that they most prefer, and an Audience Choice,” Vinyard said.
Vinyard wants to thank Katie Davis, Joshua Smith, Jackie Knapp, Layne Thrift, Freddy Baeza, Joseph Maddox, Emmo Maddox, Hannah Thompson, the Advanced Expanded Media students, Jeff Rutherford, their alumni partners, and her co-emcee Riley Coop for making events like this a reality.
There is still time to register for the contest online, or you can register at the gate the day-of. For more information about the event, please follow this link: https://alumni.usao.edu/e/art-wrecker-costume-contest-and-glam-ageddon/
