All Eyes On Russia, Should The U.S. Offer Ukraine Financial Aid?

Max Terrell

All eyes have been on Russia these last few weeks with Russian President Vladimir Putin sending in an estimated 20,000 troops to occupy parts of the Ukraine. The world has been trying to come up with a solution for the situation. While many people have the stance that America needs to aid the Ukraine, the U.S. needs to stay out of this conflict.

So far the solution to this problem for the U.S. seems to be to offer financial to the Ukraine. The roughly one billion dollars in aid (this number may increase or decrease in the coming weeks) would be given in an attempt to keep the Ukraine afloat, but does the U.S. government have the funds to loan? America has amassed a debt of 17 trillion dollars total. Fighting a war in the Middle East, a recession, and a massive debt all at once makes it difficult to loan a large sum of money like this, especially to the Ukraine.

Speaking of war, this is another solution many have pointed to, but that isn’t a solution, only a much larger problem. America has been in the Middle East fighting for years now.  The war has cost people their lives and put the U.S. in even more debt. A war with Russia would have repercussions that would leave the U.S. (and possibly the world) in a situation that America may not be able to overcome.

A war with Russia would not be anything like my generation has seen. The Middle East would look like an occupation rather than a war once the fighting between the U.S. and Russia began. If this were to happen, it could be the igniter for the next World War.  The devastation would be immense and in this World War we would not be the only country with nuclear weaponry. There may not be a world to fight for if a war like this happens.

Usually I am a proponent for helping people in need, but this is a losing battle in all regards. If America chooses to intervene financially, it will just be another financial loss for a country in need of a financial resurgence. If America chooses war, then the world will witness the true horror of mass warfare. Sometimes the right thing to do isn’t always the moral thing.
