Museum Presents After-Hours Event for College Students April 8
April 7, 2014
NORMAN, OKLA. – The second installment of the new College Night program will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 8, at the Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art on the University of Oklahoma Norman campus. The event is complimentary and open to all college students.
This new program is a fun way for college students from any university to learn more about art and experience the museum’s collection with a fresh viewpoint.
“As the museum’s curator of academic programs, I am looking to create informal learning opportunities for college students,” said Jessica Farling. “I created the museum’s College Night program to be a fun and educational way for students to enjoy the museum after hours.”
Students can enjoy live music, explore the museum’s permanent collection and current exhibitions, and participate in a hands-on activity inspired by artist Sam Francis by using marbles and paint to simulate splatter or drip paintings.
New to this month’s College Night is “Art 101.” OU professor Robert Bailey will give an informal 30-minute survey of contemporary art for students with no previous background in art history. The presentation will begin at 7:45 p.m.
This event is made possible through the support of Coca-Cola Co.
The Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art is located in the OU Arts District on the corner of Elm Avenue and Boyd Street, at 555 Elm Ave., on the OU Norman campus.
