National Media Convention: The Today Show, CNN and More Great Speakers
October 27, 2013
After our many fiascos on Bourbon Street and Canal Street Friday had arrived. Friday was our third day to stay in New Orleans. It also just so happens to be the best day of the trip, well, in my opinion anyway. Katie and I started the day early and right by listening to Hoda Kotb from the Today Show talk to us about her struggles in broadcasting, overcoming breast cancer, and many more topics. She was and is truly an inspirational woman and has quickly become one of my top heros in many ways. After Hoda was done, Katie and I split up. While the others opted for more sight seeing I spent all day at seminars such as “So What’s it Like to Work at CNN,” “Starting a Career in Broadcasting,” and “LGBT Issues in the Campus Newsroom” learning about ways to better myself in my career choices and ways to get issues out there. After all my seminars were finished, I spent time meeting and talking to new people. I talked to students from all over the country including Iowa State University, Vanderbilt, St. Leo’s, and many more. After, I met up with the whole Trend gang to take group pictures and go out to eat. When done eating, we headed back to the hotel where I decided to take a nap while the rest of the group went out on the town. I laid there for about thirty minutes and couldn’t sleep so I met up with some of the people I had met earlier. We all went exploring and finished the day and started the morning with each other before heading back to our hotels to sleep. Overall, it was a great day and made me fall in love with New Orleans.
