Why You Should Be Using Social Media to Open a Few Doors
September 27, 2013
Social media has created a narcissistic culture that loves to take pictures of themselves, talk about themselves, and waste the potential of social media. Social media to some feel like a meaningless format for people to do nothing more than talk about themselves, but social media had an amazing potential if used properly.
One of the ways that things such as Facebook and Twitter are being underutilized is in the fact that there are not people taking advantage of the use of networking. It’s a chance for college graduates or even professionals to have a chance to come in contact with people that they can learn from and keep up to date with what is going on in their career field. Keeping up with openings and getting your name out into the minds of future employers is more important than one may think.
Social networking gives the opportunities for individuals of different cultures and people with different belief systems to get together and learn from one another when they may never have an opportunity such as this. This should be taken advantage of. So many people try to stay in their comfort zone like they would in the real world. Use this, learn, and debate.
We can all utilize social media for academic and actual “social” gains, but we have to use it properly. There must be this awareness of what were posting and use it to its fullest. Instead of posting links to some ridiculous video on YouTube post a video link for Vsauce (If you haven’t checked it out this YouTube page is fascinating). And please, no more duck face pictures. Please.
