The Gay/Straight Alliance (GSA) has a new name and a broader mission this year. Now called PRISM, the club name “better reflects the human spectrum, including gender equality,” according to Kim Edwards, co-president.

“Plus,” Edwards said, “GSA is more associated with high school groups and we wanted to set ourselves apart.”

Club members are also working on designing a new logo to go with their new name.

At PRISM’s first meeting on Sept. 17th, officer elections were held and the group discussed goals for the coming year.

Only two officers were elected in the meeting, as most members were unable to attend due to scheduling conflicts. In addition to Edwards, Jacob Farriester was elected historian. The club will elect other officers, including co-president, secretary, webmaster and treasurer at the next meeting, slated for Oct. 1st at 5 p. m. in the cafeteria.

Edwards said, “Students interested in joining should attend a meeting, put their names and contact information on the roster, and join the Facebook page, which can be found at facebook.com/UsaoPRISM.”

Other plans for the year include a production of the Rocky Horror Picture Show around Halloween, a Harvey Milk Memorial March in November, and a trip to the LGBTQ College Summit in the spring.
