Looking for ways to give back to your community?
Senior communication major Garrett Ninness is hosting an informational event about the Neighborhood Services Organization (NSO) Thursday, April 23 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. outside the Student Center lobby.
Ninness will have snacks, swag, and informational flyers in the hopes of encouraging others to give back to their communities. NSO staff will be available at the event as well.
The hope for this event is to learn more about volunteer opportunities. Ninness was inspired to select the NSO as he had a deep connection to it.
“My mom has served as the President and CEO for the last 21 years, so I have grown up hearing about the mission and the important work NSO provides for the community,” Ninness said.
The heart of NSO’s mission is to serve the at-risk and homeless of the Oklahoma City community, according to the NSO website. It further explains that the organization provides transitional housing, permanent supportive housing, rental assistance programs and many more resources.
“NSO’s mission truly inspires me, at NSO they are transforming lives through safe, healthy homes, dental care, and nutrition,” Ninness said.
He further emphasized that volunteering could both be a great experience and help build student’s resumes. Ninness encourages anyone interested in volunteering to stop by the event to learn more about specific opportunities.
Whitley Brown is a third-year communication major at the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma.
