September 16, 2013
After losing their first four games of the season, the Lady Drovers finally got the win they’ve been wanting by beating McPherson College 4-1.
Junior Jade Ovendale led all scorers with two goals, both coming in the first half. USAO also received offensive production from freshman Megan Kettlewell and junior Megan Wilkerson who both had one goal.
Junior Addie Lee won the keeper battle against the Bulldogs goalkeeper Caitlyn Blagrave by recording 10 saves, with 19 shots-on-goal, and only allowing one goal.
The Lady Drovers faced Bethel College at home the following day, Sept. 15.
After gaining an early lead in the first half, the Lady Drovers couldn’t hold on and eventually lost to Bethel University 3-2.
Junior Lynda Addo scored in the 17th minute off an assist from junior Jade Ovendale to give USAO the 1-0 lead. The Wildcats answered with three unanswered goals thanks to Jaylene Tye who had a hat trick.
USAO won the shots-on-goal category with 23 versus Bethel’s 17, but they were unable to find the net.
A foul in the box led Ovendale to score a late goal off of a penalty kick in the 70th minute to make the score 3-2.
The Lady Drovers go on the road for their next three games. They return to the Drover Pitch on Oct. 1 to face conference rival, Wayland Baptist.
