Starting the second Wednesday of each month, students, faculty, and staff will have the chance to participate in six different intramural sports. Teams will compete against each other in friendly exhibitions for two weeks and then on the third week they will have a tournament where the winning team will earn prizes.
Sports for 2025-2026 include sand volleyball, ping pong, and dodgeball in the fall semester, followed by indoor volleyball, pickleball, and basketball in the spring. Games will take place around campus including the Drover Den, Drover Fieldhouse, and Lawson Court.
The next chance to participate will be today, September 17th at 6 p.m. in sand volleyball located at the court in Lawson Court.
Participants can either sign up as an individual or sign up as a team. There’s no cost to signup and if you signup as an individual, you’ll be placed on a team. You can sign up using various QR codes around campus or you can click the link on Instagram @usaoreslife and have no deadline.
Intramural sports are being ran by USAO’s Student Life Organization and is headed by Luisa Talavera, a second year Communication major.
“I want to expand student life engagement and community involvement,” said Talavera. “I’m excited to meet new people and get [the games] rolling.”
Talavera has a goal with this year’s intramural sports. She is looking to get around 10 teams for each sport to participate and is optimistic about hitting that goal. For her, more is better.
“This is a really great opportunity for students and you don’t have to be athletic to sign up or participate,” said Talavera. “I hope to help participants get back to doing something they loved.”
To all student athletes, it’s important to note that each team is only allowed one athlete.
Whether you want a fun workout or are just looking to past the time, intramural sports has a place for you. After competing, participants are encouraged to give feedback on how to improve the program and suggestions for future sports.
Chayce “LeShawn” Papp is a second-year English major from Oklahoma City.
