Tired of being stuck in the auto pilot circle you have been living in? Going from classes, to work, to doing homework and studying. You want to live a summer life, but just do not know how to? Lucky for you the summer Resident Assistants (RA’s) have you covered.
From the beginning of the summer term, RA’s have been hosting parties and events for the students staying on campus.
Luisa Talavera, Jocie Shelton, and Harry Cracknell hosted the first event of the summer. A Glow in the Dark Pool Party happened June 10 at the Lawson Clubhouse pool.
Francis Philpot, Colby Keller, and Gary Daughtry hosted the second event of the summer. “USAOhana” happened June 24 at the Lawson Clubhouse pool which was a volleyball tournament with an “on the water” streaming of 2002’s Lilo and Stitch.
“I think it [the Glow in the Dark pool Party] was great. It gives the students here on campus during the summer a feel about how student life is and the opportunity to meet new people and engage,” said Talavera.
“I really enjoy being able to see people, especially in a fun setting instead of just in class. It’s a nice get away,” said Shelton
“I was pleasantly surprised with the outcome. I was on the grill cooking 40 hamburgers and 36 hot dogs. We ran out of everything fast. It was the best pool party I have been to,” said Cracknell.
The idea to start summer events hosted by the RA’s was Holden Pate, Assistant Housing Coordinator, and Annie Roberts, Director of Student Life.
“We wanted to promote student engagement and create a more engaged community here on campus,” said Pate.
They surely have done that with the first two events. The third, and final, RA event of the summer is one you won’t want to miss. Drover Dash, the campus wide scavenger hunt, will happen beginning at 7 p.m., August 7. The RA’s hosting this event will be Maddyson McMorris and Dylan (Dilly) Guillen. Meet at the Lawson Clubhouse RA desk at 6:50 p.m. to receive all the information you will need before the scavenger hunt starts.
