Like it or not, it is that time again. The spring trimester is coming to an end, and that means finals are here.
After countless hours of sitting in lectures, taking notes, reading course books, and working your butt off, it is about to all pay off.
The Trend knows it is crunch time, and we have some tips to help you.
Asking questions does not hurt.
It is scary to ask questions, but it will help you in the long run. The worst thing your professors could say is, “I cannot give you that answer because it is too close to something on your exam.” Questions will clarify confusion you may have, refocus you on key areas and insights, and ultimately build your confidence up to know that you’re on the right track.
Make a study plan and follow through with that plan.
This can help you in many ways. It reduces stress by not cramming information, helps keep you organized when studying for different classes and different topics, and setting time aside this week for studying will help in the moment and on the day of the your final.
Conduct study group times with others in your class.
Studying with others could help you. Studying as a group holds everyone accountable, gives you different perspectives to learn from, and having others around you can motivate you more to study since you won’t be going through the process alone.
Take advantage of the housing dorm hall quiet hours.
Housing dorm hall quiet hours are 24 hours during finals week compared to the Sunday through Thursday 10 p.m. to 10 a.m. and Friday through Saturday 12 a.m. to 10 a.m. Quiet hours is a great time to of course study, but also to wind down from studying or after taking one of your finals.
Find the best studying environment that works for you.
Your studying environment will affect how well you study. In a good study environment, you will have fewer distractions meaning you get to focus better, stronger concentration equaling you to have less stress, more productivity will happen, and your memory will improve with the focused and calm area.
Visiting the Student Success Center (SSC).
The SSC is available to anyone. It is where you can get extra help or tutoring for your classes at no cost. The hours of the SSC are extended. It will be open Tuesday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 12 a.m.
President Kayla Hale’s advice to the student body is simple as it could be.
“You know more than you think you do…In moments of stress, rise and seize the moment…Pace yourself, get enough sleep, and eat something that is healthy for your body…Take care of your body and it will take care of you,” said Hale.
The Trend hopes you all do great on your finals and cannot wait for the next trimester to start.
