“Terrible Two’s” is the birthday party themed night Art Wrecker has planned to celebrate its second anniversary Friday, Mar. 8 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Jordan Vinyard, director of Art Wrecker said students are encouraged to come out and have a good time participating in the special night held in conjunction with the monthly Chickasha Art Walk.

As the number two is in the name of the event, Art Wrecker has two activities planned for the evening. The first is the “Terrible Tones,” which includes a mock fashion runway for attendees to show off their most mismatched outfits. Even if guests do not want to ‘strut their stuff’ on the catwalk, everyone is still strongly encouraged to wear clashing clothes in spirit of the event. Layne Thrift, professor of art, is well-known for his over the top, mismatched outfits and it is rumoured that he purchased an entirely new outfit for the event.

The other main event is “Terrible Tunes,” which invites all guests to bring out their singing skills for karaoke; Vinyard said the event is not meant to be taken seriously and guests should not worry about their singing skills. Both events will have “stupid” prizes, according to Vinyard.

“(The event) is a playful thing to really pay homage to the students who started Art Wrecker with me; it was the synthesis of quirky ideas, and one too many late nights in the annex,” Vinyard said.

The event will also see towers of cake and champagne, as Vinyard remarked that “Terrible Two’s” is a night people will not want to miss out on.

This is the second birthday party for Art Wrecker, sparked last year by Vinyard and students who wanted to mark the occasion in a memorable and extravagant way. Last year, the mismatched outfit part of the theme was introduced, and year two brings in another addition to the festivities.

In the last two years, Art Wrecker has been busy, featuring numerous exhibitions and exciting events for USAO and the Chickasha community. There are no plans of slowing down either, with the space booked through June 2025 already.

“The caliber of artists that we’re bringing in is just going to increase, and I’d like to see people from other regions coming in, so I’ve got some tricks up my sleeve there,” Vinyard said.

Art Wrecker is well-known for its Halloween events, and Vinyard said Art Wrecker will be bringing it back in a big way. Another annual event is the Wrecking Ball Film Festival, which is a 24-hour film race where participants compete to create the best film.

“Art Wrecker is a very warm place to be, people are welcoming, it’s predicated on fun, community events.” Vinyard said.

Art Wrecker is located at 222 Chickasha Ave. in downtown Chickasha, with an art deco inspired green sign.
