Editor’s Note – Oct. 24, 2022
October 24, 2022
Happy Monday, Drovers! I am so happy to announce that our Opal on the Oval event is tonight at 7 pm! Sadly, because of the rain the event has been moved indoors. The tentative plan at the moment is to host the event in Davis Hall’s Amphitheater. Please continue to monitor our Instagram, @thetrendusao, for more updates.
This is an event that The Trend‘s editors, David Duncan, and Dr. J.C. Casey are over the moon about! The movie we will be showing this year is “Broken Silence: Madness in Drover Town” which is a spoof of “Silence of the Lambs.” This movie is suspenseful and funny so everyone can enjoy it! The cast is full of students and faculty members. The only items you need to bring for the night, besides yourself, is a few snacks to munch on and a drink.
The Trend and Communication department are looking to make this an annual event and we would love your support! Duncan’s classes will be creating a new movie this summer and that will be showcased at next year’s event.
What other things can you expect from The Trend this week? I chatted with deans Vinyard and Jones about their collaborative Inktober event for the month. Harry Cracknell looked into a few mental health resources around campus for students. Thomas Buchanan returns with another comic, but this is one is different compared to his previous works. Mary-Grace McNutt found herself behind a camera again! McNutt chatted with Art Wrecker’s haunted house staff and is giving a quick sneak peak into the wonderous maze.
The Trend is hosting another Writer Meeting this week! Wednesday at 3:45 pm our crew will meet in Nash Library. This is where we discuss different ideas for articles, events happening around and on campus, and questions that the student body might have. I highly encourage anyone to attend these meetings if you are interested in writing, drawing, or photography. We want to work with you to prepare you for possible careers past college and add to your resumes. If you have any comments, questions, or concerns do not hesitate to reach out through our email or Instagram!
