USAO’s men’s golf team played Sept. 12th and 13th at a particularly challenging Maridoe Golf Club (Par 72, 7094 yards) in the 54 hole “Texas Intercollegiate” tournament. The top-level, private club hosted nine teams from around the region, including a few NCAA division one players. USAO was able to take away some positives, as they placed 9th with a round 1: 330 (+42), round 2: 323 (+35), round 3: 313 (+25), and a total 966 (+102).

Sophomore Jax Brewer led the team with a 26th place finish. Brewer shot 83, 75, and 81 in his respective rounds for a total of 239 (+23). Brewer pulled off an impressive second round by shooting only three-over par with three bogeys in addition to his 15 pars, a spectacular feat on a course where bogeys were the norm.

Junior Tate Trotter tied for 33rd after scoring 84, 82, and 75 throughout his rounds to total 241 (+25). His tremendous third round of three-over came with five bogeys, two birdies, and 11 pars.

Freshman Conner Cryer was grinding to tied 26th place by shooting 81, 84, and 77 in his rounds to total 242 (+26). Like Cryer, senior Caleb Smith tied for 26th. Smith shot 85, 82, and 80 to total 247 (+31). Sophomore Luke O’Dell shot 82, 88, and 83 respectively leading to a tied 49th place finish.

Looking at the individual players, Luca Gisler was the only USAO player to shoot two rounds in the 70s: 84, 78, and 78 respectively for a total of 240 (+24). Gisler tied for 30th place, throughout his first two tournaments it has become obvious that he is shaping up to be an impressive collegiate golfer.

Other individuals Grant Murphy, senior, has a total of 250 (+34) for a 46th place and Jaeden Ellis, freshman, ended with a total of 262 (+46) for a tied 55th finish.

The team heads to Crestview Country Club in Wichita, KS Sept. 19th and 20th for their third tournament of the year.
