Art Wrecker’s Tipsy Pottery

Art Wrecker is such a perfect spot for a pottery event. Photo taken by Harrison Stone.

Tipsy Pottery was a hit. Over the weekend, Art Wrecker put on a pottery-throwing event for adults the age of 21 and up. Before I go any further, I want to give a huge thanks to Jordan Vinyard, Erin Lynch, Layne Thrift, and everyone else involved. They all contributed so much for the enjoyment of others. If you couldn’t nab a ticket or didn’t hear about it somehow, we at The Trend give our condolences. It’s not every day you get a professional introduction to throwing pottery.

The event took place at Art Wrecker’s studio in Chickasha. The purpose of this event was to bring people together to try throwing clay and to drink good wine. I should probably mention that “throwing” clay does not mean chucking it in a random direction. Rather, it is the term for a clay being spun and formed on a wheel. They hosted multiple groups come in at different times for two days. With all tickets being sold out in one day, all the groups were full. When everyone arrived at their reserved time, the stations were ready to go.

First up, was a little tutorial by the great Layne Thrift. Thrift made sure we knew all the basic principles to make cylinders. The rest was up to us!

Second, everyone made whatever they wanted. A bowl? Sure! A plate? Why not!

Third, you pick the colors for your creations. Once finished, Art Wrecker took everyone’s creations to fire and glaze and fire again them. Later, all the participants will be able to reacquire their pottery and keep them.

I would be remiss if I didn’t mention the contributor to the participant’s tipsiness: Shakespeare Wine Company. They were such an amazing addition to this whole event. In fact, without them, there would be no Tipsy Pottery at all. They had a great selection for all the participants to choose from. It seemed the strawberry merlot was a popular choice. It was nice to cut the nerves of creating pottery for the first time. I hope to see them involved with many more events.

Don’t be too sad if you didn’t go. Art Wrecker is doing so many more events throughout the year. Stop by during the Chickasha event, Christmas in July to see wonderful art exhibits. A Science and Arts event in August, a motorcycle exhibit in October, and their famous Halloween haunted house. We will keep you all posted when the next event comes.
