Olivia Rodrigo brought her “Guts World Tour” to Oklahoma City Saturday, July 28 and it was a dream come true for her fans. Rodrigo played songs from her latest album “Guts” and included songs from her debut album “Sour.”
After fans arrived at the concert, a voice over the PA system announced that “Pinkpantheress” was not able to perform, creating tension and forced expectations of Rodrigo to shine. The concert opened with a screen that read “Guts” with the letters shaped as candles. As they slowly burned out, the concert finally began.
Rodrigo started the concert with “bad idea right?” which had the fans ready to go for the night. Her next section consisted of the more emotional songs from her discography, which had fans in tears as she took us all on a journey with her.
As she neared the end of this section, she rode a moon through a field of stars in a beautiful moment and sang “logical” followed by “enough for you” in a personal favorite moment of the night for me.
This concluded the first half of the concert as the second half consisted of much more upbeat songs to get the crowd hyped up and ready to scream. As she performed ‘lacy” to open this portion, she had a moment to show off her voice where all the instruments and the background vocals stopped for her to belt out a harmony as she amazed the crowd yet again. The upbeat portion of the concert consisted of songs such as “jealousy, jealousy,” “deja vu,” “brutal,” “obsessed,” and “good 4 u,” which made for a great time in the crowd.
Rodrigo closed the concert with “get him back!” and this had the arena loud and energetic as the concert drew toward an end. The story of heartbreak, growth, and self-care meshed in a great way as the results left me and several others at a loss for words.
Rodrigo is an entertainer at heart and allowed her fans to find a moment in the concert where they got into touch with their emotions. I cannot state enough how much I enjoyed this concert and what a special place it holds in my heart. I will say that this was a night I will never forget.
