USAO Drover Softball Team Opens Conference With Two Losses

The Drovers started conference play by losing to a top five opponent in Oklahoma City 2-0 and 4-1, on a chilly Tuesday afternoon.

In game one, USAO had several chances to take the lead and were close in every category expect where it mattered, on the scoreboard.

Neither team scored until the top of the fifth inning when the Stars scored a run. The score remained close with Oklahoma City leading 1-0 until the seventh inning and the Stars sealed the deal recording another run and the Drovers were unable to answer in the last inning.

Oklahoma City started off fast in the second game scoring two runs in the top of the first inning. The Stars added another run in the third, but USAO quickly answered with a run of their own to keep the game close at 3-1. However, it was short lived and Oklahoma City scored a clutch run in the top of the seventh inning and again the Drovers couldn’t answer back, and lost 4-1.

Freshman pitchers Jaci Booker and Tate Landmark finished the day with a combined nine strikeouts on the mound. Senior Brooke McLeod was the offensive highlight going 1-for-3 at the plate in game two and scored the Drovers only run.

USAO faces Southwestern Christian at home on March 4. Games start at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.
