USAO is having a leadership conference for all Drover students, free of charge, on Feb. 11 from 6-8:30 p.m. in the Davis Hall Amphitheatre.

The conference will be student run and will provide an opportunity for students on campus to develop and enhance their leadership skills, learn about various leadership topics, and network with other leaders on campus.

Roland Nuñez, the director of student development and assistant to the dean, said there are several organizations participating in this year’s conference.

“We have the Student Government Association (SGA) and the Student Activities Board (SAB). They are all putting in the man power and the funding to make it work,” said Nuñez.

Nuñez also says they are bringing in a keynote speaker from Texas named Chris Collins, who has inspired young students all over the country, to talk about leadership.

“He talks about leading for change, bringing change, and leaving a legacy, which is why our theme for this year’s leadership conference is ‘Leave a Legacy,’” said Nuñez.

Nuñez said conferences like the one this year help students become future leaders. He has had several students who attended a  previous conference tell him the conference changed their life and made them better leaders.

“Last year a lot of the students who attended the conference went to one of our breakout sessions that wanted to get USAO students involved with the community and service projects,” said Nuñez. “Another breakout session we had, the Economic Development Council came in and wanted student input as to what would make Chickasha a better community. The students said they loved being able to give input that affects the community.”

Anyone who attends will have a chance at giveaways, snacks, prizes, and t-shirts.
