Pop-Duo ‘Karmin’ Will Perform Free Show in Norman
September 6, 2013
Karmin, up-and-coming pop-duo sensation, will play a free concert at the University of Oklahoma on September 21 on the East Lawn of the Oklahoma Memorial Union for students and the public.
Karmin, founded by young artists Amy Heidemann and Nick Noonan, rose to fame on YouTube with their cover of Chris Brown’s “Look At Me Now”. That video now has over 85 million views in addition to their 1.2 million likes on Facebook. Their first EP, “Hello”, produced US top-twenty-song “Brokenhearted” as well as the #1 Billboard Dance Chart single “Hello”. Their recently released single “Acapella” from their upcoming album “Pulses” has been met with positive reviews
“With all the television appearances they have going on this month and their new album set to release soon, we think Karmin is at a stage in their rising career that will attract a wide range of OU students,” said Abby Kinsinger, professional writing senior and one of the show’s organizers. ”The most important part about Must Stay Weekend is keeping as many students on campus and we think that Karmin will help make that possible.”
Karmin’s performance will mark the third instillation in the collaborative Must Stay Weekend event, a weekend designed to keep students on campus to experience the wide range of opportunities OU has for student involvement. The first two Must Stay concerts, Iron and Wine and The Casey Donahew Band, each brought nearly 5,000 attendees. The event will continue to grow and explore different genres of music to attract a wide range of students for every Must Stay show.
“We’ve been working with our advisers since last spring on this project,” said Jordan Weaver, human relations sophomore and one of the show’s organizers. “It is something we are really proud of and hope to see grow in the future. Over the past two semesters, we have been able to establish the idea of having ‘Must Stay Weekend’ on campus every semester. With each concert we are providing a great experience for the students and we expect this semester’s show to be the largest concert yet.”
The Glee Project star Bryce Vine will kick off the show at 8 p.m. on the East Lawn of the Union near the intersection of Asp Avenue and Felgar Street. The concert has been organized by the combined efforts of the Campus Activities Council, The Union Programming Board and OU Summer Session. Additional support was provided by OU Student Affairs, SafeRide, the Oklahoma Memorial Union, The OU IT Store, The OU Alumni Association, The Student Alumni Association, and Coca-Cola.
