DroverThon’s annual event, the Dance Marathon, will take place in the USAO ballroom on March 13, from 6:30 p.m. to 11 p.m. The dance marathon will host children from the Children’s Hospital to tell their stories, a Q and A, and a Miracle Kid Makeover where volunteers can get their makeup done by this year’s Miracle Kids, Viv and Veronica.
The Dance Marathon is the club’s main event for funding allocated to the Children’s Health Foundation. Throughout the school year, the club typically hosts other means of funding such as bake sales, candy grams, bracelet making, and the Wax-A-Wolf event this past year.
The philanthropic organization is a part of the Children’s Health Foundation. DroverThon organizes funds throughout the year that go towards the children and their families within the state of Oklahoma to help them with the cost of their medical care. OU Children’s Hospital is just one of many that receive this funding.
Trinity Albao-Cozad, DroverThon’s Executive Director, discussed the Miracle Kids’ story.
“They were both preemies [premature babies], they were a lot smaller than babies typically are, and I know that they had to be in and out of the hospital. They received treatment in the OU Children’s Hospital,” said Albao-Cozad.
She further explained that the children are healthy and can participate in most activities that children their age can do.
Mallory Emerson, DroverThon’s Director of Finance, spoke on where students can apply to attend the event.
“Students can register through the Donor Drive app. Clubs are welcome to sign up as teams to fundraise together, so reach out to your presidents and talk about getting your clubs involved,” Emerson said.
