The Drover Running Club is a new addition to USAO’s campus this spring trimester, and they’re actively looking for those who enjoy running, want to run more, and everything in between. Every Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday of the week, the Drover Running Club gets together and runs. They host their morning sessions at 7 a.m. Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Their evening run sessions are Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 7 p.m.
As the club is trying to establish itself, they want to make it known that its exercises are beginner-friendly. They usually run for 30 minutes right now. The running event for each session typically depends on the group’s mood. They tailor what the group wants to do collectively.
This club came to be because of senior communication major and business administration minor Harry Cracknell. He came up with the idea and called upon junior art major Laura Barrios Bardi and senior business administration major and art minor Yaiza Larrauri to help organize the Drover Running Club. When Larrauri heard about the opportunity, she was on board right away.
“I’ve always wanted to do a running club. I see videos about it all the time with different big cities. We have a bunch of people who go running, so I liked the idea,” said Larrauri.
The club has been running around the Oval and participating in treadmill runs during bad weather. There have been plans in development for neighborhood and park runs as well as a mountain run when the weather gets warmer.
Being a member of the Running Club comes with some perks. The club is currently working on getting some Drover Running Club shirts made. Members will also get reimbursed entry into the OKC Memorial Marathon races, 5K, 10K, half marathon, or full marathon, which will be April 25 through April 27. The club is hoping enough people sign up to run in the marathon so that they can run and represent USAO.
