The Holiday Art Show is an event open to any students enrolled in an art class, allowing them to showcase the art they created throughout the trimester. The opening night is Thursday, Nov. 21, starting at 6 p.m. The event is located in the gallery on the third floor of Davis Hall, and refreshments will be provided for the opening night.
This gives students an opportunity not only to gain an audience but a chance to market to potential buyers as well. It also gives attendees a chance to buy some art as a gift for loved ones.
The types of art that are involved include photography, traditional paintings and drawings, digital paintings and drawings, textile art, 3D art, sculpture, etc.
The Holiday Art Show has been a consistent event at USAO for decades. Professor of Art Jackie Knapp, who has directed the art show for about 11 years, remembers exhibiting her art in the Holiday Show when she was a student at USAO.
This year, 46 artists registered 130 artwork pieces. This turnout was twice the amount of the previous year. Knapp stated that this might be the largest number of entries for the Holiday Art Show in recent memory.
She explained that this show is an important experience and can help freshmen learn how to present their work. This can help them learn different methods of framing, presenting their work, and boosting their resume.
“As artists, your life breath is exhibiting your art,” Knapp stated.
Knapp recommends art students to consider registering for the next exhibition: The Spring Show, happening right after spring break.
For those who can’t attend the opening night of the Holiday Art Show, all art exhibits will be available for viewing until Dec. 5 on the third floor of Davis Hall.
