The Baptist Collegiate Ministries (BCM) welcomes students and staff into their building, located at 1822 W Alabama Ave., for several weekly events, as well as a few annual events. The BCM aims to create a welcoming community for everyone, as well as teaching those interested in the Lord and the Bible.
At the end of October, the BCM will host their annual HallowThanksMas event, which is a mash of Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. Each floor of the BCM will be decorated and everyone is invited to sign up to bring festive dishes. This event will take place Tuesday, Oct. 29 starting at 7 p.m.
Tuesdays are busy for the BCM as they serve coffee and simple breakfast items, like donuts and pop-tarts, in the Davis Hall lobby. Later, Connection begins at 8 p.m. where members gather to practice fellowship through music, a short lesson, and connecting with each other. The last Connection of the fall will be Tuesday, Nov. 19.
Every Wednesday, the BCM invites a local church into their building to serve a homemade meal from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. This event welcomes all students and faculty of USAO to attend and it is free for everyone.
November will begin with the Statewide BCM Volleyball tournament where the BCM will take two teams to compete against other teams from across the state. Anyone who would like to watch the team compete can use the sign-up sheet on the first floor of the BCM before the first day of the tournament Friday, Nov. 1.
“The BCM is a great place to join a fun, welcoming community with a very diverse group of people. We all have different backgrounds and have been able to learn and connect with one another. I see the BCM as a great way to connect with others and highly encourage students to check it out,” Bella Wilson, a senior business management major, said.
Wilson has been an active member of the BCM across her three years on campus. She regularly attends the events and has supported the annual basketball and volleyball tournaments. Wilson said she has gained a lifelong community to rely on through the BCM, which has helped her better herself and become more assured in her walk with Christianity.
The BCM will end the trimester with a trip to the Festival of Light, Chickasha’s annual Christmas light festival, Tuesday, Nov. 26 at 8 p.m.
