Editor’s Note – April 10, 2023
April 10, 2023
Well, it’s official. We have three weeks left of this trimester! Students and faculty, we are in the final countdown. I’m not sure about you all, but I can smell summertime in the air…well maybe because I’m sneezing a dozen times a day. With ten days left of classes, it is definitely time to lock in and ensure you have all your ducks in a row. However, I also recommend taking time to hang with friends, play a game, or so something else out of the norm because we don’t have very much time left together. Soon we most of us will be moving home for the summer, so enjoy these last few weeks together on campus!
Speaking on campus, how many of you enjoyed this year’s Droverstock? (I hope you all just nodded.) If you missed the event, no worries! I lugged my camera around campus for over 12 hours to capture all the moments and bring them back to you. Everything from bands to the life raft debate to frisbee in the Oval to chalk art and more! Make sure to keep an eye out for my photo essay early this week!
As I mentioned, I believe we all need to enjoy our time on campus together, which is why a group of students have banded together to form the “half-letes” group. Who are these mysterious people? What do they do? Can you be a part of the group? All these questions and more can and will be answered in Paul Tointigh’s article which will post Tuesday.
If any of you kept up with the Droverstock festivities on our Instagram stories, then maybe you saw Thomas Buchanan’s stunning chalk art piece! If not, check it out in person in front of Troutt Hall’s steps. Buchanan transferred his artwork back to pen and paper this week for another relatable comic. My teasing question: What’s everyone’s favorite thing to see on campus? Check back in with The Trend Wednesday to find out!
Thursday is a big day for our publication! The Trend will be taking our staff to the Oklahoma Collegiate Media Association (OCMA) at OSU’s campus in Stillwater. The conference is in place to recognize journalism excellence. To learn about who was nominated check out an early article: “A Dozen Student Journalists Nominated for OCMA Event.” The Trend will give live updates through our social media pages throughout the day.
Finally, everyone’s favorite day of the week, will continue its trend of reviewing pop culture with Carson Trammell’s look at Sabrina Carpenter’s recent album “Emails I Can’t Send.” Trammell looks at several of the songs, where they land on the billboards, and shares his thoughts.
Our final meeting of the spring will be Monday, April 17th at 4:00 p.m. in Nash Library’s Music Pocket. We will hand out a few final assignments and talk about what The Trend will look like over the summer. The Trend does not stop publishing over the summer, so please stay up to date through our social medias. Our Instagram is @thetrendusao, our Twitter is @thetrend_usao, and our Facebook is The Trend.
Don’t forget to take a break from homework this week, eat something sweet for me, and have a wonderful week Drovers!
