Study Abroad – In Wales!
October 3, 2022
Attention Drovers!
This is the last chance to apply for the Spring 2022 Brad Henry International Scholar semester abroad program. The final application is due this Tuesday, October 4th. This once in a lifetime trip is offered by the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education (OSRHE) and the University of Wales, Swansea. Only one applicant can be accepted, and according to Dr. Brenda Brown, the dean of school of humanities and IDS and the coordinator of study abroad, not many people actually apply and jump at this life-altering opportunity.
“It is a marvelous experience. The person chosen, it changes their lives,” said Dr. Brown.
The chosen student must be at least 18 years old, an undergraduate at USAO, and have completed at least 30 hours of credits at the time of application. The scholarship pays for tuition, fees, and accommodation. Food, textbooks, airfare, and other personal expenses are the chosen applicant’s responsibility; however, the OSRHE will provide $1500 to help cover these charges. The student will be representing USAO internationally, so the required letter and application are taken into consideration first and foremost.
“Think about your audience, think about what they need to understand about what your position is in terms of going abroad, in terms of representing USAO on an international level, those kinds of things,” advises Dr. Brown. Taking this advice to heart when filling out your application could be the deciding factor of whether or not you get chosen for this amazing opportunity.
In a surprising personal twist, before Dr. Brown became the Study Abroad Coordinator for USAO, her daughter was chosen for this opportunity. Rachael Brown graduated from USAO in 2011 and she used this opportunity to help drive the direction of her life. She went on to major in International Relations and is now the Study Abroad Coordinator at Tulsa University. Chris Collins, another chosen student from USAO, graduated in 2014 and is currently the Director of National Philanthropy for Genesys Works.
Don’t forget that the deadline is October 4th. How could this trip change your life?
